Nicotinamide mononucleotide, abbreviated NMN, is a naturally occurring nucleotide found in cells. Its structure combines a nicotinamide ring, a ribose sugar, and a phosphate group. As an intermediate in the NAD+ salvage pathway, NMN is converted to nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, a coenzyme central to cellular redox reactions. NAD+ also serves as a substrate for enzymes involved in DNA repair, stress responses, and metabolic regulation. The compound is therefore part of normal cellular biochemistry rather than an exclusively synthetic molecule.
Two enzymatic steps define the canonical route from nicotinamide to NAD+. Nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase, known as NAMPT, produces NMN from nicotinamide and phosphoribosyl pyrophosphate. NMN adenylyltransferases, or NMNAT enzymes, then couple NMN with ATP to form NAD+. Whether intact NMN crosses cell membranes efficiently remains an active area of investigation; some studies propose direct transport, while others emphasize extracellular dephosphorylation to nicotinamide riboside followed by uptake. The relative contribution of each route likely depends on cell type, tissue, and experimental conditions.
Trace amounts of NMN have been reported in certain plant foods, including edamame, avocado, broccoli, cucumber, and cabbage. Reported concentrations vary widely because analytical methods differ and food matrices complicate extraction. Endogenous production in cells is generally considered more quantitatively important than dietary intake, though precise human turnover rates are difficult to establish. Commercial NMN for research or consumer products is commonly made through enzymatic synthesis or chemical phosphorylation routes. Regulatory classification differs by country; in some jurisdictions NMN is sold as a supplement, while in others it is treated as a novel food ingredient or restricted substance.
Analytical measurement of NMN typically uses high-performance liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection, often at a wavelength near 260 nanometers. Liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry provides greater sensitivity and specificity, especially for biological samples. Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy can confirm structure and detect certain impurities. Purity values reported by suppliers depend on the analytical method, calibration standards, and whether related compounds such as nicotinamide or NAD+ are included in the calculation. Independent verification is useful because supplement labels may not fully describe the tested material.
Regulatory treatment of NMN differs by country and has changed over time. In the United States, the Food and Drug Administration has stated that NMN is excluded from the definition of a dietary supplement because it was investigated as a drug before being marketed as a supplement; enforcement and legal interpretation continue to evolve. In the European Union, NMN may require authorization as a novel food before sale. In Japan, NMN has been marketed in some food products, while it is not approved as a therapeutic drug in major markets. These categories affect labeling, permitted claims, and quality oversight.
Solid NMN is generally handled as a moisture-sensitive and light-sensitive material. Suppliers commonly recommend storage at minus 20 degrees Celsius in a sealed, desiccated container, protected from light. Aqueous solutions are less stable than the solid and may degrade faster at elevated temperatures or extreme pH values. Because NMN contains a phosphate ester and a glycosidic bond, hydrolysis and other degradation pathways are plausible under unfavorable conditions. Stability data from independent laboratories remain limited, so handling recommendations often reflect supplier practice rather than published consensus.

Small amounts of NMN occur in some foods, including certain vegetables, fruits, and animal products, though the quantities are generally low and variable. Human cells also synthesize NMN internally from nicotinamide and other precursors. Research interest increased after studies examined whether raising NAD+ levels affects metabolism and aging-related pathways in animals. Evidence in humans remains limited and mixed for many outcomes, and questions about effective absorption, tissue delivery, and long-term effects are still open. Regulatory status differs by country, with some markets treating NMN as a supplement ingredient and others restricting its sale.
Nicotinamide mononucleotide, usually shortened to NMN, is a naturally occurring nucleotide. Its structure consists of a nicotinamide base linked to a ribose sugar that carries a phosphate group. In cells, NMN serves as an intermediate in the salvage pathway that produces nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, or NAD+. Because NAD+ participates in many oxidation-reduction reactions, NMN sits near central metabolic processes. The compound is not a drug in most jurisdictions and is discussed mainly in biochemistry and nutrition research.
The term NMN commonly refers to the beta isomer, in which the nicotinamide group is attached to the ribose through a beta-glycosidic bond. Commercial material may be supplied as the free acid or as a salt, such as a sodium salt, which affects molecular weight and water solubility. Related compounds include nicotinamide riboside and NAD+ itself, but these are distinct molecules with different formulas and cellular handling. Laboratory research often uses the beta form because it matches the naturally occurring configuration found in biological systems.
Regulatory treatment varies by country. In the United States, NMN has been marketed as a dietary supplement, but the Food and Drug Administration has stated that it is excluded from the dietary supplement definition because it was authorized for investigation as a new drug before being marketed as a supplement. Other jurisdictions may treat it as a novel food, a supplement, or an unapproved drug ingredient. Import and sale rules can therefore differ substantially.
Quality control for NMN focuses on identity, purity, residual solvents, heavy metals, and microbial limits. Because the molecule can absorb water, moisture content and packaging are relevant to shelf life. Suppliers may provide certificates of analysis, but independent verification is often needed for research or commercial use. The long-term stability of different crystal forms, salt forms, and formulations is not fully characterized in the public literature. Some degradation products and their effects on product performance remain open questions.
Removal of the Wall began on the evening of 9 November 1989 and continued over the following days and weeks, with people nicknamed Mauerspechte (wallpeckers) using various tools to chip off souvenirs, demolishing lengthy parts in the process, and creating several unofficial border crossings. In the season holidays this became a sort of international action. People from all over the western world went to West Berlin and local youth provided a range of appropriate demolition tools. Television coverage of citizens demolishing sections of the Wall on 9 November was soon followed by the East German regime announcing ten new border crossings, including the historically significant locations of Potsdamer Platz, Glienicker Brücke, and Bernauer Straße. Crowds gathered on both sides of the historic crossings waiting for hours to cheer the bulldozers that tore down portions of the Wall to reconnect the divided roads. While the Wall officially remained guarded at a decreasing intensity, new border crossings continued for some time. Initially the East German Border Troops attempted repairing the damage done by the "wallpeckers"; gradually these attempts ceased, and guards became laxer, tolerating the increasing demolitions and "unauthorized" border crossing through the holes.

=== Supplements === α-KIC has been studied as a nutritional supplement to aid in the performance of strenuous physical activity. Studies have shown that taking ɑ-KIC and its derivatives before acute physical activity led to an increase in muscle work by 10%, as well as a decrease in muscle fatigue during the early phase of the physical activity. When taken with other supplements over a two-week period, such as beta-hydroxy beta-methylbutyrate (HMB), participants reported delayed onset of muscle soreness, as well as other positive effects such as increased muscle girth. Studies have also suggested that ɑ-KIC taken alone did not have any significant positive impacts on physical performance, so it should be taken in conjunction with other ergogenic substances. ɑ-KIC is not available as a supplement on its own, but its decarboxylated form HMB is available in calcium salt capsules or powder.

==== Dance/movement therapy ==== Dance and movement therapy, as a form of active imagination, was developed by Jung and Toni Wolff in 1916 and practiced by Tina Keller-Jenny and other analysts. It remained largely unknown until the 1950s when it was rediscovered by Marian Chace and therapist Mary Whitehouse. Whitehouse, after studying with Martha Graham and Mary Wigman, became a dancer and teacher of modern dance, and, along with Swiss dancer Trudi Schoop, is considered one of the founders of dance/movement therapy in the U.S.
Digital vaccine passports and vaccination certificates use software for verifying vaccination status. Such certificates were used to regulate access to events, buildings and services such as airplanes, concert venues and health clubs and travel across borders.
For service members with strict religious dietary requirements, the military offers the specialized Meal, Religious, Kosher/Halal. These are tailored to provide the same nutritional content, but will not contain offending ingredients. The entrees come in distinct stylized packaging with a color picture of the prepared entree on it (like civilian pre-made meals) and the food accessories come in commercial packaging. Kosher entrees are marked "Glatt Kosher" in Hebrew and English, while halal entrees are marked "Dhabiha Halal" in Arabic and English. The meals come in cases of 12 that weigh 18 lb (8.2 kg) and have a volume of 1.4 cubic feet (40 L). To keep with dietary laws, the entree and accessory packets are packed in two separate inner boxes in an outer case and come in kosher or halal only (the two special ration types are never mixed in a shipping case). The original meals were kosher only and came in 4 Beef, 4 Chicken, 2 Salmon, and 2 Gefilte Fish menus. The meals now come in Beef, Lamb, Chicken, Vegetarian, and Pasta dishes. The entrees are a mixture of traditional Middle-Eastern and South Asian dishes (like Lamb & Vegetable Jalfrezi or Curried Chicken with Basmati Rice, Lentils, and Vegetables) and Western dishes (like Vegetable Ratatouille, Florentine-style Vegetable Lasagna, or New Orleans Gumbo with Chicken). Each menu contains an average of 1200 kilocalories and has a shelf life of 3 to 10 months. There is also a special kosher meal certified for Passover requirements.

== Taxonomy == German naturalist Wilhelm Peters described the coastal taipan as Pseudechis scutellatus in 1867, from material collected in Rockhampton, Queensland. Charles Walter De Vis described Pseudechis wilesmithii from Walsh River in north Queensland in 1911. In 1922, scientific bird collector William McLennan killed two snakes near Coen in far north Queensland. Impressed by their size—up to 2.76 m, he sent the skins and skulls to the Australian Museum in Sydney. Australian naturalist Roy Kinghorn established the genus Oxyuranus in 1923, describing a specimen from Coen as O. maclennani after its collector. He noted the distinctness of the palatine bone necessitated the new genus as distinct from all other elapid snakes. In 1930, Kinghorn announced it as the second largest venomous snake in the world, with 3/4 inch fangs. In 1933, Australian zoologist Donald Thomson concluded that Pseudechis scutellatus and Oxyuranus maclennani were the same species; this meant that Peters' specific epithet had priority, as did Kinghorn's genus as the species was highly distinct. Hence, the coastal taipan became Oxyuranus scutellatus. Thomson had spent some years in Cape York peninsula with the indigenous people, who told tales of a giant snake they greatly feared. Australian herpetologist Ken Slater described Oxyuranus scutellatus canni, commonly known as the Papuan taipan, in 1956, on the basis of its distinctive coloration. He named it after George Cann, longtime Snake Man of La Perouse. It is found throughout the southern portion of the island of New Guinea.
The Court of Justice held that the Directive could be relied on by her because equality was also a general principle of EU law. Fourth, if the defendant is an emanation of the state, even if not central government, it can still be bound by Directives. In Foster v British Gas plc the Court of Justice held that Mrs Foster was entitled to bring a sex discrimination claim against her employer, British Gas plc, which made women retire at age 60 and men at 65, if (1) pursuant to a state measure, (2) it provided a public service, and (3) had special powers. This could also be true if the enterprise is privatised, as it was held with a water company that was responsible for basic water provision. Fifth, national courts have a duty to interpret domestic law "as far as possible in the light of the wording and purpose of the directive". Textbooks (though not the Court itself) often called this "indirect effect". In Marleasing SA v La Comercial SA the Court of Justice held that a Spanish Court had to interpret its general Civil Code provisions, on contracts lacking cause or defrauding creditors, to conform with the First Company Law Directive article 11, that required incorporations would only be nullified for a fixed list of reasons. The Court of Justice quickly acknowledged that the duty of interpretation cannot contradict plain words in a national statute. But, if a member state has failed to implement a Directive, a citizen may not be able to bring claims against other non-state parties. It must instead sue the member state itself for failure to implement the law.

NMN is nicotinamide mononucleotide, a nucleotide intermediate in NAD+ metabolism. It occurs naturally in cells and can also be produced synthetically for research or commercial use. Its name reflects its composition: nicotinamide, ribose, and a phosphate group.
NMN is a direct precursor in the NAD+ salvage pathway. NMNAT enzymes convert NMN and ATP into NAD+, a coenzyme used in many cellular reactions. This relationship makes NMN a focus of studies on NAD+ metabolism.
Small amounts of NMN have been reported in some plant foods, but measured levels vary and are not consistently quantified. Dietary contribution is generally considered minor compared with endogenous production. Food-matrix effects make accurate analysis difficult.
Solid NMN is commonly stored frozen at about minus 20 degrees Celsius, sealed against moisture, and protected from light. Solutions are typically prepared fresh because they can degrade more quickly. Specific storage conditions can vary by supplier and intended use.
